Reflection

In hindsight, this course was beneficial to my growth as a collegiate scholar because as a class we were instructed on the strength that argument brings to critical thought, as well the potential that writing freely associating ideas with narrative story telling has to improve your writers voice and therefore, the class was amazing. This course was interesting to me because it gave me the option to explore my opinion and place it within contexts that I could expand my potential for thought with the aid of research material to give reinforcement to my ideas. When the semester began four months ago I was completely unaware of my writers voice. It showed through in poetic pieces I had written the fall prior in Poetry 210, however, since that course I had written anything that I would deem significant, or at least that's how I felt. My first composition class was a interesting course, it's thematic structure was based more so on becoming acclimated with posting completed works and communication with peers in a online setting that would be similar to a future work environment. I make the contrast and my comparison to show my appreciation for all of the courses and their contribution to my maturation as a writer. English 102 has definitely seen my writing evolve as I've become truly comfortable with speaking with passion in a University atmosphere. The free writes were enjoyable, yet, the strongest literary muscle that I possess came out of the reflection analysis and argument papers that we were required to write in this course. The reflection analysis came from reviewing personal beliefs from a textbook titled This I Believe, the essays came out of these readings reflected my ability to view other's thoughts critically without bias. Out of those essays, one in particular stood out in terms of intellectual growth. A piece on the advantages of sex and the sameness of sexual biology that most are unaware even exists by evolutionary biologist Dr. Olivia Judson, Dr. Judson used impressive writing to say the least combined with common sense pragmatism with an extensive knowledge of biology to present a clear refutation of theories of male gender superiority that left me convinced of the argument that she presented. The article and all those leading up to it gave me a opportunity to practice critical analysis while enhancing my ability to think and write with a new level of clarity. I am extremely thankful to my peers for their patience and excellent pieces that I had a opportunity to read. I am thankful for my instructor who encouraged us to write with conviction and passion regardless of subject matter, writing is it's best when it is unfettered and from a place where you can speak with genuine conviction about the subject you have chosen and in this course I was given the chance to do so....
